Sean McGahn, George Diaco Named Co-Captains of London Knights – London

The London Knights named Sean McGahn and George Diaco as team co-captains on Monday night.

The announcement was made at an event at Labatt’s Amber Lounge in London, Ontario.

Both players have had overage seasons in London and are 1st and 2nd in team scoring.

Diaco joined the Knights in October from the Hamilton Bulldogs and won the 2021-22 Ontario Hockey League Championship.

McGurn was selected by London in the third round of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection and spent a season at St Thomas Stars before joining the Knights full-time in 2019 at the age of 17.

Now, more than four years later, McGurn’s memory of first stepping into the arena is what he’s called home for his entire career in the OHL.

“I came to Budweiser Gardens for my first training camp and saw the building and thought, ‘This is crazy,'” McGurn recalls.

At that moment, the prospect of a brand new Knighthood couldn’t exactly imagine one day becoming the team’s captain.

“At that point I was just trying to build a team,” McGahn laughs.

Diaco’s memories of the London match go back even further.

Diaco was born in London and believes he started following Knights closely around the age of eight.

“It’s such an honor. It’s really hard to put into words,” explains Diaco. “With the support of the fans, it is such an honor to be a part of this team and to be able to wear the ‘C’. ”

Diaco was a young fan as London had won back-to-back OHL championships in 2012 and 2013.

“I still remember big guys like (Max) Domi and Bo (Horvat), waiting to get their autographs,” Diaco said.

Ironically, the former London Jr. Knight said he was handed a ball cap with the Knights logo to sign.

And Diaco now owns his own OHL championship ring.

It is the third time the Knights have named co-captains since the 2015-16 season. Christian Dvorak and Mitch Marner were captains and led London to his 2016 Memorial Cup his Championship.

Four seasons later, Liam Hoody and Alex Regula share a ‘C’ in a year of all sorts of promises before the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the rest of the 2019-20 season and the OHL playoffs. did.
