Sasha Gollish breaks Canada’s 1,500m record for over 40 masters
Sunday afternoon at La Classique d’athlétisme de Montréal in Toronto Sasha Golish The previous woman’s Canadian 40 + 1,500m record was shattered in 7 seconds at a time of 4: 16.46.

This over 40 record is now Golish’s second Canadian master 1,500m record, as it also has over 35 complete master records set at 4: 07.70 in 2017. Erna Kozak, It was set in 1986.
Golish was active in the 2022 outdoor season and won two national championship medals at 10,000m (silver) and 10K (bronze) on the road. She also won the gold medal at the 2022 NACAC Half Marathon Championship in San Jose, Costa Rica in mid-May.
“To be honest, setting the 40 + 1,500m record was a big surprise,” says Gorish. “I’ve been focusing on something longer these days.”
Before setting a record, distance runners volunteered at the Ontario High School Athletics Championships (OFSAA) over the weekend and flew to Montreal on Saturday night after a day of volunteering.
“I didn’t know how tired I could be in the race after stepping in all weekend,” says Gorish. “Therefore, my goal was just to have fun, and that’s what I did.”
Golish will compete in the 2022 Canadian Athletics Championships in Langley, British Columbia, at 1,500 or 5,000 meters in two weeks.
