Policy Under Review After ‘Abortion Is Health Care’ T-Shirt Banned In Congress

The Saskatchewan Legislature’s dress code policy is being reviewed after a woman was suspended for wearing a T-shirt that read, “Abortion is a health care.”

Megan Johnston was told Wednesday by legislative and security officials that she was not allowed into a building with the slogan on her shirt.

Johnston, who was attending a reproductive rights rally outside Congress earlier in the day, says security tracked her to the washroom after telling her to turn her shirt inside out.

Under current policy, anything related to the demonstration cannot be brought into the legislature.

Police Minister Christine Tell pointed out people were wearing orange t-shirts in the legislature and said policies needed to be relaxed.

Teru’s opinion is that the “Abortion is Healthcare” T-shirt is not offensive.

Both the opposition NDP and the Saskatchewan government have said they will work together to update their policies.
