Olympic hurdler Devon Allen cut from Philadelphia Eagles roster

In 2021, Allen had a great season on the track. He won multiple races and finished 4th in his 110 mH at the Tokyo Olympics, making it his second time competing in the competition (2016 was his 5th place). Things took a turn for the better in his April of this year when he signed his three-year contract with the Eagles. (Allen was a wide receiver at the University of Oregon and also played track, but he hasn’t returned to the field since 2016, his senior year of college.)

Just months after signing with the Eagles, Allen set a world best PR of 12.84 seconds and looked poised to win a medal at the World Championships at his alma mater in Oregon. rice field. There was a lot of controversy about Allen’s DQ because he left the block a thousandth of a second too early (the difference was undetectable to the naked eye). The starting blocks are equipped with electronic sensors to monitor each runner’s reaction time. The minimum acceptable reaction time was 0.1 seconds and Allen’s post time was his 0.099 seconds. It was a small margin to ruin the star player’s dream of winning gold on home ground, but officials had no choice but to accept the information provided by the sensors and disqualify Allen.

Now, just a month after that devastating blow, Allen has been cut from Philadelphia’s 53-man roster. He spent the previous month in the team’s training camp, including a game against the Cleveland Browns in which Allen caught a 55-yard touchdown. But his preseason performances weren’t enough to earn him an official spot on the roster, and he should hopefully be given a spot on the Philadelphia practice team.
