Multiple pets died after Edmonton fire brigade fought Arendelle home fire Friday morning – Edmonton

A house fire broke out in the southern community of Arendelle early Friday morning with brutal consequences.

Firefighters from the Edmonton Fire and Rescue Service who arrived at their home at 6106 106 St. shortly after midnight spotted the blaze.

EFRS district chief deputy Darren Stork told 880 Edmonton that multiple cats had been killed in the fire.

Everyone in the house fled, but one person was hospitalized with unknown injuries, Stork said.

Stork added that it’s a difficult blaze to tackle because of the frigid temperatures and the size of the flames spewing out of the house.

“Sectorization with searches – we had to send crews to search the entire house because we didn’t know if people were out of the house,” Stolk said.

At the time of the fire, the city of Edmonton was under an extreme cold weather warning, with temperatures hovering around minus 25 degrees Celsius.

EFRS said it was initially reported as a basement fire, but when emergency workers arrived, the blaze had spread to upper floors.

Firefighters were able to put the fire under control within an hour.
