McDavid sidelined for Oilers’ matchup against Golden Knights

Edmonton Oilers’ standout forward Connor McDavid will be absent from Wednesday’s anticipated matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Earlier in the day, head coach Kris Knoblauch had listed McDavid as a game-time decision, but ultimately, the decision was made to hold him out of the game.

McDavid, 27, sustained a lower-body injury during the team’s recent 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames, prompting caution from the Oilers’ coaching staff.

The native of Richmond Hill, Ontario, finds himself on the cusp of a significant milestone in his career. With one more assist, McDavid will join an elite group of NHL legends as only the fourth player in history to achieve 100 assists in a single season.

This exclusive club currently consists of hockey icons Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr, underscoring the magnitude of McDavid’s imminent accomplishment.

Throughout the current season, McDavid has showcased his offensive prowess, tallying an impressive 31 goals alongside his remarkable 99 assists in 74 games played for the Oilers. His absence from Wednesday’s game will undoubtedly be felt, as the team looks to maintain their momentum in his absence.
