Laurel Crossing crosses home design and surrounding amenities

That old real estate adage was just that when Mohammad Chowdhury and his wife Rifat Hossein decided to build a new building in southeast Edmonton.

Originally from South Asia, both immigrated to Canada and first came here as students, but the location is the main reason they chose Laurel Crossing.

Laurel Crossing was looking for a new home because the townhome on the south side was too small, and on three occasions Laurel Crossing provided us with the right location. It’s a community with good access to Asian grocery stores and eateries, and a good selection of public transportation options. Equally important, it was a place that offered them the opportunity to design their homes to their taste and style.

“My son grew up and needed more space, so we wanted to find a bigger place,” said Chowdhuri, who wanted to build a new building because of the flexibility in choosing floor plans, colors and design schemes. I added that I was thinking “We looked around and found that Laurel Crossing was an area that offered many amenities not available elsewhere where new homes could be built. We wanted to build (and) public transportation to get downtown, (reasonable) time to get downtown, access to the new (Valley Line Southeast) LRT line, and close to the Millwoods area. We wanted to build it, because it’s close to most of South Asia’s stores and facilities…and convenient access to Anthony Henday Drive.”

After settling on Laurel Crossing, I chose one of the seven builders in the community, the Parkwood Master Builder, and chose the Alexandria model.

According to Ron Torrella, Area Sales Manager for Parkwood, Alexandria is Parkwood’s most popular plan.

2,295 sq ft two story home with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a bonus room upstairs. On the main floor is the study and his two kitchens. Main kitchen and spice kitchen.

“When they saw the plan, they loved it,” says Torrella. “This house is very popular in this culture. When we created this plan, we were able to find exactly what they were looking for and at a very reasonable and competitive price.”

This model has two versions. The smaller Alexandria 24 is 2,151 square feet and has similar features including four bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, two kitchens and a study. Prices start at $651,000. Full-size Alexandria start at $695,000.

“We looked at many builders,” says Chowdhuri. “Their showhouse is a great representation of the model we built.”

The couple loved that when they saw the show home, they were able to get a good idea of what the home would look like without being overwhelmed by the upgrades on the show home. also found the model they chose offered excellent value and features.

“Most of my customers make some changes,” says Torrella. “Parkwood allows you to make changes.”

Chowdhuri and Hossain – They purchased in mid-2020 and took ownership in May 2021 – Multipurpose with spice kitchen removed, half bath and study expanded, space can also be used as main floor guest suite changed to room.

They also liked that the home’s foyer offered only a limited view of the rest of the main floor.

“There should be some degree of privacy when we enter the house,” Chowdhuri said.

The couple said moving into their home was a dream come true.

“We are very happy and very excited that we have finally achieved it,” they said. “This will be our forever home.”

Laurel, Aster

It’s been at least a decade since Parkwood began selling homes in Laurel Crossing.

It’s currently building single-family homes with front-attached garage houses, including a zero-lot line version, but Parkwood said there’s still a strong interest in the community.

“Laurel Crossing, right now we are in the final stages of the full development of a large district,” Torrera said. These are the last two stages or phases that developer Qualico is currently doing.Soon this district will be or will be finished.”

For those looking in the area, Qualico Communities found a nearby Aster just across 17th Street NW. Laurel Crossing is a little closer to Anthony Henday and a little further from NW 23rd Street. To 23rd Street, a little away from Andy.

However, both communities are close to the Meadows Community Recreation Center and schools, including a new 10th-12th grade high school scheduled to be completed by 2024, as well as numerous grocery, dining, and retail outlets.

Torrera added that Astor is still new and in its early stages, with space allocated for future elementary school development.
