According to a Spanish journalist David Sanchez de CastroNonino’s split shorts failed him and didn’t support his lower part. It didn’t work.
Nonino quickly dropped to the back of the line in the final, crossing the line last in 51.57 seconds. The 18-year-old has his personal best of 51.12 in the 400m sprint. This is what he set for his U20 championship in Italy earlier this year.
It may not be the moment Nonino wanted at the World Championships, but he was positive about his dysfunction on social media.
“What happened was an accident. I’m sorry, I just wanted to let you know that I am aware of the reaction,” Nonino posted. “I’m trying to laugh right now, but I felt terrible right after. I’m grateful to my friends and family for helping me get through what happened.”
Nonino finished the decathlon 15th out of 27 in his first U20 Championship.
