Inquest scheduled for miner’s death

A coroner’s hearing regarding the death of Denise Millett has recently been scheduled for Monday, December 12, 2022. Millett died in June 2015 while working at a roundabout gold mine located about 300 kilometers northeast of Timmins, Ontario. In 2016, Detour Gold was indicted for criminal negligence under the Canadian Penal Code over the death of an employee at his Detour Lake mine in Ontario.

At the end of October, Ontario launched a blitzkrieg of mining inspections. From October 31 through December 30, 2022, state Department of Labor, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) inspectors will review the state’s hazards related to underground mine air quality and workplace hazardous materials.
