‘Harry Potter’ actor Leslie Phillips dies at 98

British actor Leslie Phillips has died at the age of 98.

The star who voiced the Sorting Hat in the Harry Potter movies has passed away after a long illness. Sun.

After being named an OBE on the Birthday Honors list in 1998 and promoted to CBE in the 2008 New Year’s Honors, Phillips has had an 80-year showbiz career, including the movie Carry On.

The actor’s agent, Jonathan Lloyd, confirmed that Phillips died “peacefully in his sleep”.

His wife Zara told the paper, “I have lost a wonderful husband and the public has lost a truly great showman.

“He was a real national treasure. People loved him. He was mobbed everywhere he went.”

“When we got married, he cheekily introduced me to the press as royalty, claiming that I was the new Zara Phillips and that I was related to the Queen.”

At the age of 90, Phillips had two strokes six months apart, according to the BBC.

Phillips first appeared in films in the 1930s before appearing in ‘Carry on Nurse’, ‘Carry on Teacher’ and ‘Carry on Constable’ in 1959 and 1960.

He was also nominated for Bafta for his role in 2006’s “Venus.”
