GFIA elects new president | Insurance Business Canada

The Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) has made some leadership changes, including the election of Susan Neely (pictured) as President and new appointments to the Executive Committee.

Neely, currently President and CEO of the American Life Insurance Association, will succeed Don Forgeron, President and CEO of the Canadian Insurance Authority, in his new role. Succeeding in Neely’s former vice-president role will be Tim Grafton, Chief Executive Officer of the New Zealand Insurance Council. Meanwhile, the membership manager position vacated by Grafton will be taken over by her Norma Alicia Rosas, Executive Director of the Associaciòn Mexicana de Instituciones de Seguros.

These positions are held for two years.

“I am honored to be elected GFIA President and look forward to building on the success of Don Forgeron, who has led the GFIA over the past two years,” said Neely. “Don and other leaders have significantly strengthened the GFIA’s mandate to present a unified voice on global insurance issues. In 2023, we will use this momentum to explore protection gaps and We will make policy recommendations based on the findings.”

She added: Through GFIA, we will advance solutions to the risk protection challenges facing countries and work with global policymakers and standard-setters to find ways to help people prosper. “

GFIA previously decided to cut ties with the All-Russian Insurance Association following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Last May, members of the association said they wanted to “express complete solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are showing incredible strength and courage in the face of unimaginable adversity.”
