Former PQ MNA Harold LeBell Sexual Assault Trial Begins – Montreal

A sexual assault trial involving former Quebec politician Harold Lebel is ongoing in a court in Limosky, Quebec.

LeBel, a former Party-Québec member of the legislature, pleaded not guilty to one count of sexual assault.

The identity of the alleged victim is protected by a ban on disclosure.

LeBel was arrested on December 15, 2020 on suspicion of the October 2017 incident, leading to his dismissal from the PQ Caucus.

On Monday, a jury of 14 people was selected to hold a trial in Rimousski, Quebec, about 315 kilometers northeast of the capital.

Superior Court Judge Serge Francour is presiding over the trial, which is expected to last two to three weeks.
