LAVAL, Que. – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today attended a groundbreaking ceremony for biotech company Moderna’s new mRNA vaccine factory in Laval, a suburb of Montreal.
The factory is expected to be completed as early as 2024 and will produce 100 million doses of mRNA vaccine per year.
We manufacture vaccines against COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses, including influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Prime Minister Trudeau was accompanied by state and federal politicians, including François-Philippe Champagne, Federal Innovation Minister, and Stéphane Boyer, Mayor of Laval.
The prime minister told reporters that Moderna’s new plant represents an investment in the safety of health care for Canadians and in a research ecosystem that will provide good jobs for years to come.
Champagne said Canada had committed to buying a certain number of vaccines from the factory, but did not give details.
