An Alberta politician has been charged with participating in the ‘Freedom Convoy’ protests in Coutts, Alberta.
Marco Van Huigenbos is an alderman for Fort Macleod, Alberta, who was charged with mischief for organizing protests earlier this year.
Ontario police officers Dana Earley and Paul Receed, who participated in the protests in Windsor, Ontario, will also testify.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergency Act for the first time in Canada’s history on February 14, arguing that temporary and special powers were needed to end the lockdown at Ottawa and the border crossing.
The Public Order Emergency Committee is investigating the Liberal government’s decision to invoke the law.
Public hearings, required under the Emergency Act, are holding hearings in Ottawa until November 25.
