Deena Kastor wins 6th World Major Marathon Star in Berlin
Former American women’s marathon record holder Dena CusterKastor earned his sixth star for his result in Berlin and has completed all six world major marathons.
Kastor hoped to reach the US Olympic Trials standard of 2:37:00 in Berlin. She fell short of that, but finished second in the women’s 45-49 age group.
Kastor has raced at five other majors (Boston, London, Tokyo, Chicago and New York). Berlin in 2019, an ankle injury dashed those plans. Castor is one of America’s greatest ever marathoners and until this year he held and won the national record of 2:19:36 he set at the 2006 London Marathon.
Keira D’Amato She ran 2:19:12 at the Houston Marathon in January 2022, and D’Amato broke Castres’ record by running a slower race in Berlin on Sunday, running 2:21:28.

Kastor also held the American half marathon record until 2018 with a time of 1:07:34. Molly Huddle I ran in 1:07:25. As with her previous record, Castor has won many races throughout her career, including several Worlds her majors, including London in 2006 and Chicago in 2005. She also won a bronze medal in the 2004 Athens Olympics where she won the marathon. Her most recent World Major Marathon appearance was the 2019 Tokyo Marathon.
Castor’s goal of completing all six world majors is a goal held by many marathoners (both amateurs and professionals) around the world, including the greats. Eliud Kipchoge He set a world record of 2:01:09 at the Berlin Marathon.
