David Evey sworn in as BC Prime Minister at Vancouver Maskeme Center

Victoria-David Eby is sworn in by the Lt.-Gov as the new Prime Minister of British Columbia. Janet Austin is breaking tradition in Vancouver next week.

The November 18th ceremony will be held at the Musqueam Community Centre, rather than the traditional venue of Government House in Victoria.

The Government House has already been booked for another event, according to the prime minister’s office.

However, Eby said in a statement that the swearing-in ceremony at the Musquemie Center will be a powerful symbol of the state’s shared vision for all people of British Columbia in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples.

Eby, who was hailed as the NDP’s leader last month, said he would introduce the cabinet at a ceremony at the Governor’s Office on December 7.

He will succeed Prime Minister John Horgan, who is stepping down due to health reasons.

Former Attorney General Eby last month unveiled a 100-day agenda that includes initiatives on health, the environment, society and housing.

This report by the Canadian Press was first published on November 8, 2022.
