More than 20 residents were evacuated from a burning Morinville hotel on Sunday night.

The Morinville RCMP received reports of a fire at the Morinville Plaza and Suites around 8:20 pm Sunday night. When paramedics arrived, they saw flames coming from his second floor of the two-story building, police said in a news release Monday.

The RCMP said 27 residents were evacuated by the fire brigade and police. The affected patron is receiving assistance from Morinville Family and Community Services and her Sturgeon Victim Services at the Reception Center. No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
About 35 firefighters responded to the fire, and additional crews were called in from Gibbons, Regal and St. Albert.

Highways 642, 102nd and 103rd Streets were closed as crews fought the fire. Route 642 has since reopened. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and find alternative routes while the crew continues their investigation.
Police said there was no suspicious activity associated with the fire.
Members of the community posted dozens of photos of the hotel fire on Twitter.
