Cornell University has announced a temporary suspension of fraternity parties after a student reported being sexually assaulted on Sunday and four others were reportedly drugged in an off-campus residence in recent weeks. said a university leader this week.
All incidents occurred at residences belonging to registered fraternity groups, according to a statement to students Monday by President Martha Pollack and Vice President Ryan Lombardi.
A police investigation is ongoing.

The cancellation of fraternity parties and other social events at Ivy League colleges follows an emergency meeting on Sunday between staff and the Interfraternity Council, which governs recognized fraternity, according to a statement.IFC student leaders made the decision voluntarily.
“Fraternity leaders will use this time to implement stronger health and safety plans,” the university statement said. “IFC-related social events will not resume until student leaders and Cornell University staff are confident they can operate responsibly and safely.”
IFC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.

Cornell University police said on Friday that there were at least four cases in which students reported being incapacitated while attending an off-campus party despite having consumed little or no alcohol since Sept. 24. Warned about the incident. The individual believed he had been exposed to rohypnol, the warned said. Commonly called “roofies,” these illegal sedatives are known as date rape drugs.
On Sunday, university police reported that a student was sexually assaulted during an event between 2:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. that day.
