Boréas BOS1921 Meets Demand for Low-Cost, High-Performance Haptics in Ultra-Thin PC Trackpads, The Canadian Business Journal
Bromont, Quebec, September 28, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Boréas Technologies today announced BOS1921. The BOS1921 is a miniature piezo driver that provides autonomous operation and sensing for piezo haptic trackpads in a single chip. A driver is required for force sensing. This advancement cuts the bill of materials (BOM) cost by up to 2x, keeps the piezo haptic trackpad thinner and more responsive than Boreas’ first generation piezo haptic driver, his BOS1901 also provides 15 times higher sensing resolution.
Simon Chaput, Founder and CEO of Boréas Technologies, said: “Thinner and lighter than traditional mechanical trackpads, supporting a crisper, cleaner tactile experience, piezo haptic trackpads are gaining popularity in laptop and notebook designs. Haptic drivers are leading this transition.”
Main features of BOS1921
Autonomous operation
- Integrated digital front end with 13C/I2C and Waveform Synthesizer (WFS) — Reduces BOM cost and saves board space by eliminating the need for dedicated electronics such as microcontrollers.
High resolution piezo sensing
- 7 mV detection resolution, interrupt generation, and automatic triggering of haptic feedback — improved sensitivity and the lowest latency haptic feedback on the market for an enhanced user experience.
CapDrive technology
- Consumes 10x less power than competing haptic platforms — saves battery life
- Integrated Sensing—Reduces BOM Cost
Wideband high voltage output for driving multiple applications
- 190 Vpk-pk (+/- 95V) output voltage and wide supply voltage range of 3V to 5.5V — supports a wide range of piezo actuators and provides design flexibility in applications such as PC trackpads, micro pumps and piezo fans To do
Availability and Information
The BOS1921 is scheduled for production in Q2 2023 and is already sampling to major customers. [email protected]
