Body of kidnapped runner Eliza Fletcher found in Tennessee
Memphis police released a statement Tuesday morning on Twitter, Eliza Fletcher A 34-year-old woman was abducted while running near the University of Memphis campus on Sept. 2. Her body was found behind a vacant apartment 10km from where she was abducted, the cause and location of which has not been disclosed. Her death has not been determined.

according to the police affidavit, Fletcher went jogging around 4am on Friday. At 7 a.m., when she had not returned to her home, her husband reported her missing. A male civilian walking down the street found a mobile phone and Champion brand sandals on a street in the area. He turned the items over to Fletcher’s family, who turned them over to the police.
Fletcher was last seen on local surveillance footage on Friday morning. affidavitOnce the man got out of the car, he ran aggressively towards the victim and pushed her into the passenger side of the car. The car then parked in the parking lot for about four minutes before driving away.
Cleosa AbstonThe 38-year-old previously convicted kidnapper, who was released from prison in 2020 after serving 19 years, was arrested Saturday and charged with aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence. according to Memphis Police.
Update: A person detained has been formally charged in connection with the kidnapping of Eliza Fletcher. At this point in the investigation, her 38-year-old Cleotha Abston was charged with her kidnapping and tampering with evidence, specifically aggravated by her.

DNA found in Champion’s sandals left at the crime scene matched Abston’s, and CCTV footage also showed Abston had worn the same sandals the day before his abduction.
After the body was identified as Fletcher’s, Abston was charged with first-degree murder and first-degree murder for the kidnapping.
Fletcher is a mother of two and a former preschool teacher in the Memphis area.
