Athletics Canada announces World Athletics Championships team
Athletics Canada has announced the names of the 54 athletes that make up the Canadian team at the World Athletics Championships (WAC) in Eugene, Oregon, July 15-24. Thirty women and 24 men head to Eugene, with a total of 15 Olympic medals in between.

Notable track and field athletes are: Aaron brown, Andre de grasse, Lucia Stafford, Damian Warner, When Madikelly. The last World Championships were held in Doha, Qatar in 2019, and Canada is back with one silver medal and four bronze medals. De Grasse won the silver medal at 200m and the bronze medal at 100m. Meanwhile, Warner won a bronze medal in the heptathlon. Mohammed Ahmed At 5000 meters, and Evan Dunfee At 50K racewalking. All 2019 medalists will return to this year’s event.
Team Canada Head Coach Glenroy Gilbert I have great expectations for this group as reported in Athletics Canada website: “We expect athletes to perform at their best with the World Championships as a benchmark event. This is our strongest team,” he says. “Last week at the National Championships, we performed great at various events, and we didn’t have any athletes in the world, so we look forward to great results for Eugene as a whole.”
Brown, who won his 10th national title at the Canadian National Championship last weekend, told Athletics Canada that he is looking forward to the competition in North America. Brown performed his season’s best in the Langley, British Columbia, last Sunday afternoon to win the men’s 200m in the 20.03 seconds. “Hayward has always been a special place and we hope to seize this opportunity to grow the sport on this side of the world.”
