Anniversary Toronto 2022 Ceremony

Memorial Day is a day to remember Canadians who gave their lives for their country in war.

There are many ways Ontarians can honor their fallen soldiers, veterans and active duty soldiers. For example, wearing red poppies, observing a two-minute silence, or attending a service.

Toronto has several ceremonies starting at 10:45 am on Friday mornings.

The City of Toronto will host a ceremony in front of the Old City Hall, with Mayor John Torrey and Ontario Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowswell scheduled to speak at the event. A live stream of the event will be available online for those unable to attend in person.

The streets around Old Town Hall are closed from 10am to noon. Bay Street from Albert Street to Richmond Street West, Queen Street West from Yonge Street to York Street, James Street from Queen Street West to Albert, and Bay Street to Albert Street.

During that time, drivers will not be able to park in this area and TTC trams and buses will be redirected.

The East York Civic Center Memorial Gardens, Etobicoke Civic Center Cenotaph, Fort York National Historic Site, Meridian Arts Center, Scarborough War Memorial, and York Civic Center Cenotaph will also have concurrent city-run Memorial Day services.

The Ontario government also holds an annual ceremony outside the Capitol.

At the Soldiers Tower in Hart House, northwest of the State Ceremony, the University of Toronto will hold a memorial service at 10:20 a.m. Anyone wishing to view this particular service online must register in advance. .

The Toronto Zoo will hold its annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Waterside Theater at 10:55 AM, but will close 10 minutes earlier.

Veterans, military, emergency services, and TTC personnel who arrive in uniform receive free admission and parking for the day. Others who plan to attend the ceremony at the zoo will get his 50% discount on admission.

Outside of the Remembrance Day ceremony, the CN Tower is lit up red that night to commemorate the lives lost.

The TTC also said it will suspend services for two minutes at 11am in honor of the fallen soldier.

During that time, the subway will stop at the station platform, and buses and trams will stop in front of the stop in advance and stop during the stop. Services and advertisements will then resume.

Memorial Day is not a legal holiday in Ontario, so some businesses should be open even on Fridays.

However, most federal and state government agencies, banks, and the Canada Post Office are closed on public holidays.
