Andualem Shiferaw breaks course record and wins Ottawa Marathon

On a sunny Sunday morning in the capital Andualem Shiferaw Ethiopia ran a new course record time of 2:06:03 to win the 2022 Ottawa Marathon.Siferau broke Ethiopia’s previous record Iemane Tsegay 2:06:54.

Having achieved the fastest personal best for the 2:05:52 race, Siferau participated with a lead group of six runners. The group passed half at 1:03:53, but seemed a bit late for the 30-year-old Ethiopian. At the 25K mark, Siferau soared, creating a slight gap in the field.

When he marked 30km, the race organizer knew he would witness the performance of Siferau’s course record. “I enjoyed the Ottawa Race Weekend when I entered the 10K Championship in 2019,” says Kent. “I knew I had to go home to experience the marathon atmosphere.”
