Alanis Morissette reveals why she dropped out of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance, criticizes ‘anti-female sentiment’

Alanis Morissette has responded to claims she missed Saturday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Morissette was expected to take the stage with Olivia Rodrigo to perform a tribute to Carly Simon. It was planned to sing, but Rodrigo ended up singing alone.

Morissette then posted a statement on her Instagram story, writing, “There are rumors of misinformation about my absence from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony last weekend. First, Carly Simon, Olivia. I have to say how much I love Rodrigo, Dolly Parton, Janet Jackson and Pat. [Benatar] Sheryl Crow, Pink, Brandi Karlil, Sara Bareilles and all the amazing people and artists that were there.

“I have spent decades in an industry where a general feeling towards women is prevalent and throughout my career I have experienced many disrespect and disrespect, reduction, disrespect, breach of contract, uncooperativeness, exploitation, psychological violence, etc. I’ve tolerated it.” The Canadian hitmaker continued.

She added: I live to serve and connect with people, so over the years I have breathed it in on countless opportunities to do so. It’s hard, but Hollywood is notorious for its disrespect for the femininity in all of us.

“Thankfully, I’m now in a time when I don’t have to spend time in a less female environment. I’ve had countless incredible experiences in my life with production teams of all genders. It’s a lot and a lot of fun. Nothing beats a diverse group of people working together on one mission.I turn on the bell and keep showing up in those environments.”

The performance would have taken place after Rodrigo inducted Morissette into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in September.
