The Essex County OPP has filed additional charges against a driver accused of causing the three-vehicle collision that killed Wheatley’s mother and daughter while commuting in March.

Jacob Fehr, 22, of the Chatham-Kent area, faces two counts of death from reckless driving of a motor vehicle and two counts of hijacking a vehicle without consent. and driving while prohibited (2 counts).

On the morning of March 18, at about 6:44 am, Fehr was behind the wheel of a white pickup truck on County Route 34 between Leamington and Wheatley.

A collision involving a pickup truck, a utility van, and a black sedan has occurred.

Two passengers in the sedan — 50-year-old Carrie Steemann and her daughter, 30-year-old Jacqueline Steemann — died in the collision and were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Unifor Local 444, the Steemann family were on their way from Wheatley to the Erlingklinger manufacturing facility in Leamington that morning.
