Canadian Business Journal, New Resource to Support Safe Obstetric Care

OTTAWA, Dec. 01, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — A new program will help obstetricians, family physicians, nurses and midwives integrate their knowledge to provide safe obstetric care. Safe obstetric care programs offered by the Canadian Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (SOGC) will be unveiled at a continuing education event in Toronto on December 1st.

SOGC CEO Dr. Diane Francoeur said:

This three-year, points-based training program offers healthcare professionals a variety of accredited educational seminars, including e-learning activities, workshops, webinars, and in-person training sessions. The program includes 11 mandatory and multiple elective components. This wide range of electives offers participants the opportunity to select courses that meet their specific professional needs.

The Canadian Medical Protection Association (CMPA), which worked with SOGC to develop a safe obstetric care program, sees the program as an innovative approach to education. Her Dr. Liisa Honey, CMPA Senior Physician Advisor, said: She said, “Achieving quality improvement and collaborative ongoing professional development should help reduce harm.”

SOGC is one of Canada’s leading organizations for improving women’s health since 1944.

Since 1901, the CMPA has assisted physicians in medical legal matters, enhanced patient safety, and compensated patients harmed by medical negligence.
