Former Alberta Prime Minister Jason Kenny resigns from parliamentary seat
EDMONTON – Former Alberta Premier Jason Kenny has stepped down as a member of Congress.
In a signed letter posted on Kenny’s verified Twitter account, he said his resignation would take effect immediately.
He says he has been honored to represent the Calgary Reid constituency since 2017.
A former federal minister, Kenny hopes to continue contributing to democracy after 25 years of electoral life.
He says he is concerned that democracy is turning from debate to polarization.
Kenny announced in May that he would step down as leader of the ruling United Conservative Party and was replaced by Prime Minister Daniel Smith.
This report by the Canadian Press was first published on November 29, 2022.
