Thieves also destroyed a window display that had just been made for the holiday season. He left the store two minutes after they broke the glass door.
Beck Antiques & Jewelery has only been in Sherwood Park Mall for about six months, according to Beck Antiques & Jewelery founder Clinton Beck.
Beck says there have been robberies in the past in the 35 years they’ve been in the business.
“They had never done a robbery like this at a mall, so the security was traumatized and the maintenance guys traumatized,” Beck said.
Beck said it was rare and unexpected for his store to be robbed at a mall, and security needs to be further tightened.

“We felt that the mall, especially Sherwood Park, would be a safer environment for us, but there is no safer environment anymore. Unfortunately, we always have to be prepared,” Beck said.
Beck said the RCMP arrived very quickly and provided security footage. He hopes the suspect will be arrested soon. He also offered a $500 reward for information about the crime.
“I don’t think the criminals realize how much it’s affecting so many people, and it’s really taking a lot of the joy out of the season for the staff and the mall. So many people.” are affected by this, and the damage is probably 10 times what they actually steal,” Beck said.
