Three men arrested during ‘historic’ seizure of smuggled cannabis in Laval

Laval police on Friday said $8 million worth of smuggled cannabis led to a “historic” seizure on Wednesday after a week-long investigation sparked by tips from the public.

In a statement, police said the warrants had been executed at two commercial addresses on rue Leman. In the city’s Duvernay district, 1,314 kilograms of dried cannabis, 2,271 cannabis plants, 69.8 kilograms of cannabis resin and $500,000 worth of grow equipment were seized.

“One of the two addresses had a permit from Health Canada to grow cannabis, but an investigation revealed that the parameters of that permit were not being respected and that the production of the plants permitted by the authorities was not permitted. We have found that the number is greatly exceeded,” police said.

The size of the seizure necessitated calling in officers from other squads to assist with the tally, and this operation lasted two days.

Three men, aged between 38 and 53, were arrested and released on the promise of appearing in court.
