Travelers heading to Vancouver International Airport should be prepared for delays around the airport, not just on Fridays, but throughout the weekend due to Black Friday sales at the nearby McArthurGlen outlet mall.

Airport officials said they are working closely with the RCMP and traffic management officials to prepare for the influx of shoppers that clog the roads. “However, heavy traffic is expected on the day and delays are expected for those traveling to and from the airport by road,” a YVR statement said on Thursday.
The Richmond RCMP said it plans to deploy additional officers on the roads around the mall and airport to deal with the higher-than-normal traffic. Heavy crowds are expected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before the mall opens and before it closes.

Heavy traffic is expected Friday from 8 AM to 10 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM.
Airport authorities are urging travelers to use Canada Line instead. If you need to drive to the airport, we recommend parking in plenty of time. Those planning to take the Value Long Term Lot adjacent to Templeton Station may face longer delays due to its proximity to malls.
YVR also encouraged shoppers and people working in the area to use transportation. The McArthurGlen Outlet is also accessible via the Canada Line and Templeton Station is within walking distance.
