Yukon says a new temporary COVID-19 public health measure will come into effect on Tuesday

Whitehorse-The Yukon Territory says it will introduce new public health measures on Tuesday due to the surge in COVID-19 cases caused by the highly contagious Omicron mutant.

The new guidelines limit all private and public gatherings, including team sports, recreation and leisure activities, to 10 or 2 households.

According to the area, this includes bars and restaurants, limited to 6 people per table, but must be closed by 10 pm.

All indoor-sponsored events, including funerals and weddings, need to be postponed and the casino kept closed.

The Ministry of Health says new limits are needed due to the “unprecedented” number of cases that say it could overwhelm the local health system.

In the Yukon Territory, 67 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Friday, and a total of 459 cases were reported in the region.

This report by Canadian Press was first published on January 14, 2022.
