WRANGLERS REPORT: Jakob Peletier’s Furious Momentum

Jakob Pelletier may be the hottest player in the AHL right now.

The Calgary Wranglers may be the hottest team in the league.

As you can imagine, this second point is more important to Peltier. The 21-year-old doesn’t have the personality to stare at me, even though his play inevitably gets a lot of attention.

And now Peltier’s play deserves attention.

Heading into Thursday’s matchup against the Coachella Valley Firebirds, Peletier was on a seven-game scoring streak with four goals and nine assists for the Calgary Flames’ farm club. It’s the longest active streak in the league at the moment, and people are talking about it.

However, Peltier never listened to anyone.

“To be honest, I think I try to focus on myself, I try to focus on how I play. I don’t read Twitter or Facebook or the news much,” Pelletier said. “I’m happy to help the team win. So far I think he’s won eight out of the last nine games. Honestly, I feel good.”

The Wranglers have undoubtedly picked up a lot of wins lately, and Peltier production is a big part of the reason for that. did. He has also scored five goals in each of his last three games, during which he has outscored his opponents 15-6.

After he got off to a slow start with a 2-5 record in his first seven games, they have moved up the Pacific Division standings in the past two weeks, and heading into Thursday’s game, he’s going to No. 1 Colorado with his Eagles. What has changed between their slow start and their current breakneck pace? Peltier sounds less complicated.

“I think we’re just playing around,” Peletier said. “I think his first five or six games were a bit too much, but now he’s just playing simple and hard and his last 10 or so games were good. We have to keep doing that. not.”

A first-round pick (26th overall) in the 2019 draft by the Flames, Peltier has been a source of attraction and excitement for local hockey fans. His first season of professional hockey went well last year in what was then Stockton his heat, raising questions about how quickly he could transition to playing in the NHL with the Flames.

His current tone will surely see these questions become bigger and more persistent.

He’s probably pretty confident that an opportunity with the Flames will come at some point sooner or later.

“Last year I had the opportunity to play with him in the first 20 A-League games. It’s nice to see him succeed there and it shows that it all starts with the A’s,” Peletier said. “If you have a good season, you can go up like him.”
