Whit Merrifield hit two home runs for Toronto and Teoscar Hernández also went deep. Jose Berrios (11-6) was tagged with 6 runs and 7 hits in the second inning.
An RBI hit by Manuel Margo and run-scoring hits by Franco and Arrozarena helped the Rays lead 6-3 in the second inning.
Franco added a two-run double during the Rays’ three-run fourth.
Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash chose to start second, replacing Ryan Yarbrough (3-8) with opener JT Chargore, two hitters who had some career success against lefties. faced with
Hernández hit a leadoff home run in the seventh in 34 at-bats against Yarbrough. After one out, Merrifield tied the game at three on a solo shot and had seven hits, including two home runs, in nine at-bats against lefties.

Aranda scored three runs first on the second pitch from Berrios. Arrozarena hit a run-scoring double, moved to third on a throw to the plate, and scored on a wild pitch.
Toronto’s Beau Bichet hit a run-scoring double in the first and had 24 RBIs in 21 games in September.

The Blue Jays could use right-hander Alec Manoa (14-7, 2.40 ERA) to start the last game of the regular season or be a wild card opener.
Interim manager John Schneider will use Manoa if home field advantage is at stake.

Infielder/outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni, who played seven years in the minors, was selected from Triple-A Durham just weeks after his brother’s wedding.
