The holiday kicked off on Saturday (November 26) night with the 40th annual Peninsula Corp Santa Light Parade through downtown Victoria.

Thousands of onlookers lined Government and Douglas streets as about 50 different floats and groups made their way from the BC Legislature to Fisgard Street, despite a cold drizzle.

Emergency vehicles, boats, trucks, tractors and motorcycles from around Greater Victoria lit up the streets with bright, festive decorations, cheering onlookers young and old.

Bands of all kinds marched without skipping a beat, dancers paused occasionally to show off their moves, and volunteers handed out candy to children who eagerly stretched out their arms in anticipation.

There were smiles on nearly every face throughout the night, but of course, the biggest smiles and cheers were saved for the last and most important float of the parade.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus in a sleigh atop a float have officially arrived for the holiday season with smiles and waves and even singing Christmas carols for the crowd.

This provision will be available November 27th at the Hudson Holiday Plaza (1701 Douglas Street) for photography, entertainment and local vendors.
