Montreal composer Yannick Nézet-Séguin nominated for Canadian Grammy Awards

Classical music composer Yannick Nézet-Séguin is one of Canada’s leading Grammy nominees this year, with other local talents showing strong performances.

The Montreal native earned five nominations in four classical music categories, tying Selvain Guinea for Record of the Year for his mix of Mary J. Blige. good morning gorgeous.

Born in Romania, Genea immigrated to Canada at a young age and has made a name for herself in the music industry, winning 19 Grammy Awards.

This year’s other leading contenders included Toronto producer Boi-1da, who came in close behind with four nominations, including two in Beyoncé’s Album of the Year category. Renaissance and Kendrick Lamar Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

Toronto rapper Drake famously boycotted the Grammys in recent years for not submitting his work, but there are three nods. He is named after his contributions to other artists’ projects.

Canadians nominated for singles include Arcade Fire for Best Alternative Music Album, DJ and Producer Kaytranada for Dance/Electronic Recording, Michael Buble for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and Bryan Adams for Rock Performance.

The 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be hosted by Trevor Noah and will air on February 5th on City Television and CBS.
