Windsor police say elderly pedestrian died after crash

A 71-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a car on Tecumseh Road East, Windsor Police said.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 pm at the intersection of Tecumseh Road East and Ford Boulevard.

A pedestrian collided while trying to cross the road in a power wheelchair, police said.

As a result, the elderly man suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.

Tecumseh Road East was closed for more than four hours in both directions between Buckingham Drive and Riverd Avenue on Tuesday while the scene was processed.

I saw an electric wheelchair on the north side of the street.

Tecumseh Road East and Ford Boulevard are well-lit intersections with crosswalk signals.

A section of Tecumseh Road East has a speed limit of 60 km/h.
