The Mount Richter fire, 17 kilometers west of Osoyoos, on State Highway 3, is currently classified as active.
Since the fire was discovered on August 3, crews have worked to install handguards on either side of the fire and keep it blazing on steep, high-altitude terrain, supported by both helicopters and air tankers. Suppressed.
The wildfire is under control by the BC Wildfire Service and is therefore unlikely to spread beyond the determined containment lines. The crew will continue firefighting efforts to extinguish the area of heat and flames over the next few days.
The fire was caused by a large vehicle fire that spread on a nearby slope.
It quickly expanded to 50 hectares and over 20 facilities were put on evacuation alert. These alerts have since been withdrawn.
