Meta is disbanding its Responsible Innovation Team, the FCC wants to do away with certain satellites to reduce space debris, and Garmin is responding to the Apple Watch Ultra with battery claims.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Meta has disbanded an internal team aimed at assessing potential harm to society. According to Facebook’s vice president, the now-defunct Responsible Innovation Team has been around for several years. It consisted of engineers and people familiar with civil rights and activism who advised the company on potential harm across a range of issues. The team closure appears to be part of a broader restructuring of Meta’s AI team. As reported by Engadget, the Responsible AI group has been merged into the Social Impact team. Also, although the Responsible Innovation team has disbanded, Meta said most of his team members will remain with the company and work on other projects.

The US Federal Communications Commission wants to reduce space debris by requiring low-Earth orbit satellites to be retired after five years. These satellites, called LEO satellites, hover about 500 km above the Earth’s surface. However, satellites currently in orbit are exempt from this rule, and the FCC provides a two-year grace period for satellites scheduled to be launched. This applies to U.S.-licensed satellites and satellites that are not U.S.-licensed to provide service in the country. Of course, future Starlink satellites are also included in this rule. That said, the plan is currently only a proposal and will be put to ballot by the FCC on September 29th.

Designed for extreme athletes, the Apple Watch Ultra stood out for its versatile performance and safety features. The hype has been so hot that Garmin, the sports electronics giant that makes dedicated and custom gear for competitive sports, countered by comparing battery life. It said it measures lifespan in months instead of days.The company advertises that the watch will last up to 150 hours thanks to the built-in solar charging. That’s more than twice as long as his Apple Watch Ultra, which in low power mode he’s estimated to last 60 hours.

The U.S. Navy said releasing any more UFO videos would undermine national security, adding that government UFO videos are classified information.
