Istanbul explosion kills four, cause still unknown

Istanbul –

Four people were killed and 38 injured in an explosion on Sunday in one of Istanbul’s most popular pedestrian thoroughfares, officials said.

The cause of the explosion on Istiklal Street was not immediately clear. Five prosecutors have been assigned to investigate the blast, according to the state-run Anadolu News Agency.

Videos posted online showed flames erupting and making loud noises as pedestrians turned and fled. Other footage showed ambulances, fire engines and police at the scene. Social media users said shops were closed and boulevards were closed.

Turkey’s media watchdog temporarily banned coverage of the blast. This is a move to prevent broadcasters from airing video of the moment of the explosion or its aftermath. The Supreme Council of Radio and Television has imposed similar bans in the past following attacks and accidents.

Istanbul governor Ali Yerlikaya tweeted death toll And he said that the injured person is being treated.

Turkey suffered a series of deadly bombings from 2015 to 2017 by Islamic State and outlawed Kurdish groups.
