Residents have been warned of possible severe thunderstorms that could hit the Western Columbia area this afternoon (August 11).
According to Environment Canada, conditions suggest that severe gusts of wind, large hail and thunderstorms that can bring heavy rains are possible.
Government agencies warn residents that lightning strikes kill and injure Canadians each year, and that hail and gusts of wind can cause property damage and injury.
Additionally, lightning strikes have been a major cause of wildfires in the region over the past two weeks. Thunderstorms on 29 July, 1 August and 4 August caused him five fires in Glacier National Park and Mount Revelstoke National Park.
