Mike Grier was officially hired by San Jose Sharks as the club’s next general manager on Tuesday afternoon, maintaining his position as the first black man in NHL history.

Glia, 47, has played for the NHL for 14 seasons since 1996, three of which she played against sharks. His last season was Buffalo Sabers, and he stopped playing in 2011.

By stepping into that position, Glia will replace interim GM Mike Will, who took over when Doug Wilson resigned for medical reasons in November 2021. Wilson held that position for 19 years and resigned in April.
