Vancouver police are investigating a possible hate crime after a man was attacked by three men during Pride Week.

A 42-year-old man stopped by the Circle K convenience store on Commercial Drive and East 10th Street just after midnight on July 31 to buy a Slurpee.

He had a brief verbal confrontation with another person waiting in line. He jumped at three men as he left the store, police released a video of the incident on Saturday.

The 33-second video shows three men and two women hanging out outside a convenience store, waiting for their victims. As he stepped outside, one of his women threw what appeared to be an orange slurpee at him.

Later, even after he fell to the ground, he was swarmed by three men who punched and kicked him.

“The victim was thrown with a drink, knocked to the ground, and repeatedly punched and kicked by three men while the two women watched from a distance,” Konst said. Tania Vicintin of the Vancouver Police Department.

“After the attack, the men and women left together and the wounded were left by the roadside.”

Police are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.

The man is believed to be in his 20s. One man wore a black T-shirt, black pants, and black shoes with orange markings. His other two were wearing white T-shirts, dark shorts, his pants, and white shoes.

Police are also looking for any witnesses or bystanders who passed through the area. Among them was a cyclist who stopped to help but stayed behind to talk to police.

Anyone who witnessed the attack, has dashcam video, or can identify the man or woman in the video is asked to contact Vancouver Police at 604-717-9209.
