Vernon Search and Rescue Helps Elderly Man Return Home

A man in his 70s walked 12 kilometers and took a taxi to his old address.

An elderly man went missing and was found Thursday night (August 4) in Vernon.

A man in his 70s walked out of his East Hills home and was disoriented. After his family searched the neighborhood, he was last seen near Highway 6 in Coldstream, about six kilometers from his home.

Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) set out to find the man on foot, by bike and by car. Within two hours we found that he had passed Lake Calamarca another 6 km.

In the area, VSAR was told by a resident that he helped a man get a taxi, but the man said his address was near Swan Lake.

They found him safe and healthy in the area and reunited him with his family.

VSAR recommends that older family members who have or are experiencing dementia or Alzheimer’s disease carry a card with address and family contact information.
