Valle of Canada wins bronze medal at 1 meter springboard at world championships

Mia Vallée won the bronze medal on Wednesday’s women’s 1-meter stepping stone and Canada’s second diving medal at the FINA World Championships.

A 21-year-old woman from Beaconsfield, Queensland, earned a total of 276.60 points in five dives, winning her first career medal in the world.

Valle led three dives and entered his second and final attempt, but struggled with a score of 48.10, the lowest in the field of 12 competitors. Still, her powerful show on her previous dive kept her on her podium.

Calgary’s Margo Erlam was ninth with 246.10 points.

Valle participated in the championship with five career podium finishes (1 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze) at the Grand Prix circuit.

Lyran Wiens of Pike Lake, Saskatchewan and Nathan Zombermalay Tandem of Montreal won Canada’s first diving medal at the Men’s 10-meter Synchronized Event on Tuesday.

Canada has won 13 medals (3 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze) in these worlds after setting a national record of 11 in swimming last week.
