Unifor members elect Lana Payne as new president

Toronto – uniform Lana Payne has been elected as the new president of Canada’s largest private sector union, becoming the first woman to hold the position, according to a report.

Payne, Former State Secretary and Treasurer uniformdefeated Assistant to the President Scott Dougherty and President Dave Cassidy. uniform Local 444.

The party’s leadership vote came after former national president Jerry Diaz resigned in March and was later indicted for violating the union charter’s code of ethics and democratic practices.

Diaz has been a face for a long time uniformhas led the union since 2013 and was re-elected in 2016 and 2019.

uniformhas more than 315,000 members and represents workers in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, aviation, forestry, energy and telecommunications.
