Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce challenges pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis in 100m race

Jamaica, one of the greatest female sprinters of all time, at the Brussels Diamond League press conference on Thursday afternoon. Shelly Ann Fraser Price, I have a question for the pole vault world record holder. Mondo Duplantis: “Hey Mondo, how fast are you in 100 meters… against me?”

At first, Duplantis was stunned by the question, and after some thought and hesitation said, “I would beat you!”

But Fraser Price was skeptical. “How many meters do you have to run in the pole vault? Twenty meters?” Duplantis replied that in the run-up he was 40 meters and in high school he ran 100 meters.

“But that wasn’t five or six years ago,” replied Fraser-Pryce.

“But we are much faster than we were five years ago,” replied Duplantis.

According to the World Athletics Database, Duplantis ran faster than Fraser Price during his college days (Louisiana State University). Fraser-Pryce holds the faster “legal” personal best of 10.60 seconds.

Fraser-Pryce expressed disbelief and bet the pole vaulter to easily beat him over 100 meters. Duplantis accepted the challenge, followed by a formal handshake.

“Yes, Fraser-Pryce and I will be racing the 100 m in Brussels next year. It’s already arranged!” Duplantis laughed.
