Making the UK a ‘Global Home for Crypto Investments’
A parliamentary committee in the United Kingdom (UK), known as the Crypto and Digital Assets All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), recently said it had launched an inquiry into the country’s crypto and digital assets sector. The study will focus on the country’s current approach to crypto and digital asset regulation. We will also look at the UK government’s plan to make the UK a “global home for cryptocurrency investments”.
In a statement, the congressional group said it would hold several testimony sessions over the next few months. APPG says it will not only gather evidence through public meetings, but will also accept input from players in the sector, including cryptocurrency operators, regulators and industry experts.
After the investigation period is over, APPG said it would “produce a report with key recommendations and share the findings with the government for consideration.” The report will also be shared with Congress’ Select Committee on the Treasury.
A Critical Time for the Crypto Industry
Lisa Cameron, Chairman of the Crypto and Digital Assets APPG, said of the launch of the investigation:
The UK crypto sector has seen increased interest from consumers and regulators in recent years as the number of people currently owning some form of cryptocurrency or digital assets has increased. We are at a critical time for the sector as global policymakers are also reassessing their approach to crypto and how it should be regulated.
Cameron added that the group will also look to concerns about financial crime and advertising in the UK crypto sector. APPG will further consider actions taken by regulators in other jurisdictions.
Meanwhile, the group’s statement said submissions by individuals and organizations wishing to express their views should be emailed by September 5. appendix. “
