Snell runs for go-ahead TD as Steelers hold off Colts

INDIANAPOLIS — Benny Snell Jr.’s 2-yard touchdown run (9:55 left) put Pittsburgh ahead, and the Steelers fended off a last-minute comeback to defeat the Indianapolis Colts, 24-17, on Monday night.

Snell recorded 12 carries for a season-high 62 yards after being replaced by an injured Nagy Harris in the third quarter. Harris missed halftime with an abdominal injury.

Pittsburgh (4-7) has won eight straight in the series, tying San Francisco for the most Monday night wins (52) in league history. The 49ers were in front with a win against Arizona in Mexico City last week.

Matt Ryan drove the Colts (4-7-1) to score, but Indy missed a minute in three plays in Steelers territory before finally going down on 4th with 30 seconds remaining. Ryan then threw an incomplete to Paris Campbell on 4 and 3 from the Steelers 26 and Indy fell to 1-2 under interim coach Jeff Saturday.

It was the Colts’ first home Monday night game since September 2015, and the first half was a dud.

Pittsburgh drove into Indy territory on all five possessions, producing three field goals and Harris’ 6-yard TD run to take a 16–3 lead.

The Colts sparked when rookie Darris Flowers returned the opening kickoff 90 yards in the second half. Four plays later, Jonathan Taylor scored on a 2-yard run to cut the deficit to 16–10.

The Colts drove to the Steelers 1-yard line on their next possession, but Ryan and Taylor failed the handoff and Pittsburgh recovered. Indy then forced a three-and-out, and Ryan threw his 6-yard TD pass to Michael Pittman to give Indy his 17–16 lead late in the third quarter.

It didn’t last long. Pittsburgh responded with Snell’s scoring run, and his two-point conversion pass from Kenny Pickett to George Pickens made him 24–17.

Pickett was 20th for 28 yards, gaining 174 yards and no turnovers for Pittsburgh. Ryan threw for his 199 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
