Familiar faces win the Leadville Trail 100

The most famous 100-mile trail race, the Leadville Trail 100 (The Race Across the Sky), began Saturday morning in Leadville, Colorado, with runners traversing 4,800 meters of elevation gain in the Rocky Mountains.previous champion Claire Gallagher (2016) and Adrian McDonald (2021) both won their second Leadville title, winning by a two-hour margin.

The race has been a fixture in the ultrarunning community since its inception in 1983. Due to the extreme altitude and altitude, athletes feel exhausted as they pass through the Rocky Mountains, making it difficult to breathe.

When Gallagher won in 2016, she set a course record of 18:06:24 (1994) for the first 50 miles. This year, Gallagher has played more conservatively, Addie Bracey up to the 50 mile mark.

Gallagher, from Boulder, Colorado, was the first woman to cross the finish line in 19:37:57, just 37 minutes slower than her 2016 winning time. Alisin Hummelberg Corona del Mar, California and Lindsay Herman The Albuquerque, New Mexico native crossed the line in second and third two hours after Gallagher finished.

Heading into this year’s race, McDonald was destined to repeat as the men’s champion. last year, he won overwhelmingly in his first 100-mile race alone.

MacDonald had settled down early and mixed things up with a pack of ten runners until the 25-mile mark. By the halfway point he had established a 15-minute lead over the second-placed runner.

The Fort Collins, Colorado native continued to extend his lead over the final 50 miles, reaching the finish line in 16:05:44, 13 minutes ahead of his 2021 winning time.McDonald crossed the finish line more than two hours before him JP Jibrin Scotland and Ryan Kaiser We came across the second and third lines respectively in Bend, Oregon.
