With Tom Cruise replaying his “Top Gun” role in the new sequel “Top Gun: Maverick,” fans are back with some of the original stars (such as Val Kilmer) for a short cameo. You may have noticed, but it’s not, with Kelly McGillis and Meg Ryan, neither appearing in the new movie.

In 2019, McGillis shared her theory of why she wasn’t approached to replay the role of “Top Gun: Maverick.”
“I’m old, and I’m fat, and I look age-appropriate about what my age is,” McGillis said in an interview with ET. “And that’s not what the whole scene is.”
